Tonight in Music: Mumiy Troll, Run Run Run

Mumiy Troll is one of the most significant bands to come out of Russia since the fall of the Soviet Regime.  They are leading the way for popular music in Russia, and are extremely influential.  They are traveling a long way to come to Seattle!

I don’t know much about Russian popular culture, except for a few movies, so I found this to be interesting:

Mumiy Troll became the leader of an entire new musical trend copied now to greater or lesser degree by Russian wannabees and mainstream artists. Being an example of one of the successful long-standing independent artists in Russia band released 8 studio albums so far, wrote and produced soundtracks for a full length cartoon movie and gave a new sound to classic Russian silent sci-fi movie and donated tracks to feature films including Russian blockbuster Night Watch, where Ilya also plays the Vampire. His face is on the cover of the American release.

The movie Night Watch was pretty good!  You get an international movie-star and trend-setter (Ilya Lagutenko, the singer) for the price of one – not bad!

Opening for Mumiy Troll is Run Run Run who play well polished pop-rock.  They might look tough, but they are real sweethearts.  They will most likely deliver an uncontroversial and upbeat set.
