23.08.10: The Mumiy Trolls will talk to Americans about love.
During its recent tours on Russia, Mumiy Troll would usually finish its concerts with epic instrumental rock-compositions such as “Pospi, Rock-n-Roll” (Sleep, Rock-n-Roll), “Kak Budto” (As If) or with a heartfelt acoustic ballad “Eto po lubvi”. The first song was played on Nashestvie (Invasion) festival with burning guitar and drums in finale, while the second one was performed together with Kuban Cossack chorus. The ongoing tour on the USA also has a surprise for the audience. During the recent concerts in Philadelphia and New York, Ilya Lagutenko invited to the stage the musicians of an American band Run Run Run, which tours together with Mumiy Troll, – and the fans had a fiery version of the famous 60s’ song, Somebody to Love, for dessert.
Ilya Lagutenko: “It seemed to me that we should express certain words of gratitude to the riches of local rock culture during our American tour. I’ve been thinking hard, what composition could become “the song of the moment”. And actually the moment itself hinted on the solution. Many journalists and our fans ask themselves does American spectator need Russian rock-n-roll. Aren’t Americans ready to love the Russian rockers? The song is not only significant for the entire world rock-n-roll, it also directly asks listener: “Don’t you want somebody to Love, don’t you need somebody to Love?” According to the audience reaction, the song played by Mumiy Troll was very much welcomed. After a couple of days I was contacted by the president of Rondor Music publishing company that manages copyright for this composition, and asked us to promptly record a studio version of the song performed by Mumiy Troll. Our agent said that this pert Trolls’ version conquered the company’s representatives (they were on the New York’s concert) and they wanted to make it a soundtrack for the new “Transformers” and “X-men” coming in 2011. Well, it seems we won’t have a vacation – after the tour we’ll have to come to the studio and promptly record this song. Meanwhile, we’ll be rehearsing it on each of our concerts.”
Next week, Mumiy Troll crosses the American border and goes to Canada.
